Although the islanders have always led a very simple life and eaten simple food, a varied and tasty cuisine has nevertheless developed here. It was adapted both to their economic possibilities and to the foodstuffs that were available. Homemade olive oil is used for cooking. There is a lot of wine and the island population use it not only as a drink but also as a condiment. The homemade lozovaca brandy is improved by the addition of various aromatic herbs -aniseed, rose petals etc. There are many eating places in and around Lumbarda to choose from. They range from fish restaurants situated on the waterfront to small pizzerrias in restored oliveoil pressing buildings. There are also standard hotel restaurants. The nearest "Lina" restaurant offers a variety of meals prepared in their wood oven. However, an icecream at the local coffee shop is definitely a must! |
